Marketing & Communications Staff – 1/27/2017, 9:00 am
¶ 2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 Q1: If Providence College were to be best known for one thing only within the next 10-20 years, what should it be?
- ¶ 3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0
- Accessibility to faculty
- Focus on humanities, liberal arts
- World-class instruction
- Quality of curriculum
- Discussed plusses/minuses of being best known for business education
- Best known for what we teach and how we teach it (academic excellence)
- Focus more on how we teach (not what we teach)
- Tenure/promotion – too much value on publication
- Faculty!
- Engaging classes, notable research, great mentors
- “Humanities based education that gets results” (results = student outcomes)
- Authenticity! – must be authentic in whatever we do
- Students have access to rich experiences, in part, because PC is small enough to allow for it
- Signature work – at the institutional level
¶ 4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 Q2: What should the College be doing in the next 10-20 years that it isn’t doing today?
- ¶ 5 Leave a comment on paragraph 5 0
- More educational experiences not for credit; i.e., shorter-term, certificates, “one skill”
- More direct relationships/partnerships with business, industry, not-for-profits, other colleges/universities, etc (for student placements, to share knowledge, to generate knowledge/research); also, can build revenue and/or decrease costs
- Becoming more “green” (composting, solar, reducing waste, etc) and telling the story
- Students learn how to tell their own stories (e.g., communications courses, communications major, journalism, etc)
- Environmental studies/science – should be teaching it
¶ 6 Leave a comment on paragraph 6 0 Q3: If you had $100M+ new dollars to spend, how would you spend it?
- ¶ 7 Leave a comment on paragraph 7 0
- Endowment for financial aid – meet 100% of students’ need (be sure to provide support for students with need while at PC)
- Adding faculty (endowed faculty lines), in core areas of strength – “rock star faculty”, or investing more in current and replacement faculty (not necessarily new lines)
- Small business incubator (“PC powered kickstarter”)
- More/better science resources
- Fix website ($500K)
¶ 8 Leave a comment on paragraph 8 0 Q4: What should be the most important measure or indicator of the College’s success? Why?
- ¶ 9 Leave a comment on paragraph 9 0
- “Culture of gratitude” (rather than transaction) – gifts honor people, honor institution
- Highest fund raising participation rate of any institution like PC
