  • Accessibility to faculty
  • Focus on humanities, liberal arts
  • World-class instruction
  • Quality of curriculum
  • Discussed plusses/minuses of being best known for business education
  • Best known for what we teach and how we teach it (academic excellence)
  • Focus more on how we teach (not what we teach)
  • Tenure/promotion – too much value on publication
  • Faculty!
  • Engaging classes, notable research, great mentors
  • “Humanities based education that gets results” (results = student outcomes)
  • Authenticity! – must be authentic in whatever we do
  • Students have access to rich experiences, in part, because PC is small enough to allow for it
  • Signature work – at the institutional level

  • More educational experiences not for credit; i.e., shorter-term, certificates, “one skill”
  • More direct relationships/partnerships with business, industry, not-for-profits, other colleges/universities, etc (for student placements, to share knowledge, to generate knowledge/research); also, can build revenue and/or decrease costs
  • Becoming more “green” (composting, solar, reducing waste, etc) and telling the story
  • Students learn how to tell their own stories (e.g., communications courses, communications major, journalism, etc)
  • Environmental studies/science – should be teaching it

  • Endowment for financial aid – meet 100% of students’ need (be sure to provide support for students with need while at PC)
  • Adding faculty (endowed faculty lines), in core areas of strength – “rock star faculty”, or investing more in current and replacement faculty (not necessarily new lines)
  • Small business incubator (“PC powered kickstarter”)
  • More/better science resources
  • Fix website ($500K)
