¶ 2 Leave a comment on paragraph 2 0 On February 11, members of the Strategic Planning Committee held a Strategic Planning Focus Group with alumni class ambassadors and regional clubs volunteer representatives. Prior to the focus group, a pre-survey was issued to participants to gauge initial thoughts on the four key questions guiding the “discovery phase” of the strategic planning process. The questions posted on the pre-survey are as followed:

- If Providence College were to be best known for one thing within the next 10-20 years, what should it be?
- What should the College be doing in the next 10-20 years that it isn’t doing today?
- If Providence College had $100M new dollars to spend, how should it be spent?
- What should be the most important measure or indicator of the College’s success? Why?
¶ 4 Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 40 alumni were divided into four groups, and tasked with discussing one question in-depth with a committee liaison present to record responses. Below please find detailed notes and interpretations of the group discussions around each core question.

- The College should be highly recognizable regionally

- Distinguish itself in different ways to different alumni “hubs”
- Current students should be thought of as being “well-rounded”

- Catholic, educated, responsible, and successful
- Providence College should be considered:

- A place you come to flourish
- Safe haven for all
- Blend of old and new as the College moves into the next century
- Branding

- Better national recognition will be needed to accomplish
- Will help increase applications, endowment
- Dominicans can help increase Catholic identity associated with the College on a more national scale

- Increase and continue to spread the message of DWC and other affiliated programs

- Identify as unique, and formative
- School message and mission should better integrate inclusiveness, Dominican tradition, vocation, and “Divine Providence”
- Being authentic should be primary focus

- Success stories should be amplified to inspire
- Individuality should be embraced
- Social media could do a better job of representing the many facets of campus and student body
- Move away from focusing so heavily on one area…

- Shift focus from PCSB to Science Complex project… elevate sciences
- Less vision of perfection, more continual and visual communication in order to keep true connection with audience

- Decide what it exactly is that sets PC apart from the rest
- In addition to athletics, invest in other focuses like the “Dominican tradition”

- Talent

- College should reach a place where we are attracting a much wider array of academic talent – more based in technology and sciences
- Student Debt and Student Financial Aid

- The number of students coming out of the College with debt illustrates their ability to be supportive of the College early in their lives
- The percentage of students receiving aid is important to show where our development numbers are at
